Rooted in Camden is a mural created with the farming community at Resilient Roots Community Farm and gardening neighbors of upper east Camden. I work directly with the community to figure out what was important to them and how we can create a mural centered around what environmental justice meant to them and honor this diverse groups practices and roots. The mural focuses on the progression from seed to pot as community, gatherings, and eating together was a big part of the culture at the farm. Along with the ideas and concepts from the community members directly, I was able to create a public art piece that not only shared the story and culture of the farm, but also lights of the space like the sun. Environmental justice is picking up litter, keeping the water clean, breathing clean air, but it’s also living in collaboration to make vibrant, healthy communities that care for each other.
